Here at HOP we are always seeking ways in which we can help and support the Leeds Community and those in it. Our community is important to us!
HOP have recently joined partnership with the local charity, Pudsey Community Project. The charitable organisation was started by Pudsey Parish Church to provide community, youth/children and poverty resources for Pudsey and the surrounding areas.
The charity, lead by vicar Richard Dimery, started prior to Covid-19, having noticed the lack of support for those living in the local community. Utilising the church facilities, Richard and a team of volunteers were able to start a food bank from donations. Working alongside Leeds City Council and other charities, Pudsey Community Project were able to start delivering food parcels to vulnerable people across LS28.
As Coronavirus hit, Pudsey Community Project noted a surge in demand. With lots of people struggling to support their families as well as many people isolating. The project stepped up and took on the huge increase in demand. They even recognised the need for children’s clothes and also something to help those isolating, so started collecting jigsaws which have been delivered with food parcels to the elderly.
This incredible charity has been a lifeline for many during a very tough year. Due to an increase in demand, Pudsey Community Project have moved their base out of the Church into new larger premises on Carlisle Road. The new location will allow them to further expand their offering, with meeting space so that vulnerable people can meet safely, cooking space so they can not only prepare meals but also offer cooking classes to our younger generation, and also a pantry service whereby those in poverty can purchase £10 worth of food and toiletries for as little as £3.
To help and support the amazing work Pudsey Community Project do, HOP’s Pudsey branch has become a Drop Off Point for the charity. As most of those working for the project are volunteers, they are unable to open their facilities every day of the week. Therefore, our office provides a safe place for those who wish to donate.
HOP also pulled together to donate food and toiletries to the project earlier this month. We look forward to working with the Pudsey Community Project and supporting the amazing charity and all they do for our local area.
