A high speed train.

Leeds is an important economic centre, with Leeds Central station used by 100,000 every day. Leeds City council, along with Metro and Network rail are gathering with Business leaders to ensure the HS2 projects remain on track for success. One of the plans will be to create a new southern entrance to the station, as well as ensuring Leeds is central to future Network rail and Government plans. The Government has already confirmed the extension of the high speed rail link to Leeds and Manchester, a huge advantage to Leeds and enabling a reduction in journey times by up to an hour from 2 hours and 20 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes.

The Rail link will allow Northern cities to benefit from the growth of London, allowing businesses to exploit new markets and access new customers and suppliers, as well as people across the country accessing new jobs and services. Britain has been divided for too long; the high speed rail link is a crucial part of the government’s strategy to reduce the huge economic gap separating the North and the South to help a more balanced increase in jobs and growth within the UK’s main economic Cities.

We feel that as Leeds grows as a leading Business centre, it is hugely important that Leeds has adequate access to other important cities such as Birmingham, London and Manchester via this proposed high speed rail project. Whilst the cost of the project has scared some people, it is time now that Britain invests in some quality infrastructure, enabling Britain to remain attractive to overseas investors and to be able to allow a feasible commute between the major economic cities in the UK for business travellers and commuters.
