Enter this cool and inviting building and saunter downstairs into the cosy ‘Skippy’s Lounge’ basement bar. Here you will find an expansive selection of wallet friendly cocktails (241 Sunday-Thursday), and a wonderful selection of beers, ciders and spirits such that even the aficionados out there will find something to their taste. A personal recommendation is to try a Raspberry Collins, and since it’s two for one-why not get two just to make sure you like it.
For those who consider themselves as a spirit connoisseur and like to flash the cash, try the £40 a shot Diplomatico Ambassador Rum. I’ll stick to a pint though thanks.
Trio is an excellent place to meet friends and moan about student finance, or those pesky housemates you don’t get on with (if you haven’t already read it here’s our guide on how to get on with your housemates).
All this can be done without shouting, as the music is played at a comfortable level and the dark leather booths secure privacy. The music by the way is an eclectic mix of alternative tunes to keep the current listener happy, and old favourites for the Mick Jagger inside us to sing along to- there really is something for all musical tastes.
Should those super noodles you ate failed to have hit the spot, why not try some of the tasty bar food available until 10pm, priced at a student friendly 2 for £10. I can personally recommend the classic cheeseburger, which serves to satisfy even the most hearty of appetites.
For those smokers out there you can puff away to your hearts content in the snug, sheltered, smoking area, which is generously heated by three halogen lamps and has tables for those who like al-fresco dining-maybe not in January though.
There is something on every day of the week in Trio in Headingley, those who wish to brave their 9am Monday lecture with a hangover; should find a very chilled and relaxed atmosphere on a Sunday night with live bands from 8pm and tequila and Jager for £1.75. Those who wish to test their iPhone’s internet connection under stress could have a go at Trio’s ‘Big Fat Quiz’ from 9pm on a Tuesday with £2.50 on selected pints drink offers and £100 prize. I could go on about the different nights and the varying themes and drinks promotions but in honesty, by the time you read this article the guys at Headingley’s favourite bar will undoubtedly have come up with a new way to attract patronage.
Trio in Headingley is undoubtedly a favourite among the students of Leeds so it can get busy on a weekend-but for those who are after weekday drinks and a relaxed atmosphere to boot I cannot recommend Trio highly enough.
So what are you waiting for, if you are coming to Leeds next year or are unaware of this little gem then grab your Headingley student house, grab your wallet and I’ll see you in Trio-mines a Raspberry Collins.
