A survey carried out during the first quarter of the year by BDRC Continental, on behalf of Paragon Mortgages, has revealed that 81% of tenants renting their homes in the private rented sector are satisfied with their current landlord.
Although there has been much media attention directed at rising rents in the private rented sector, 70% of tenants reported that they perceive the rent they pay to be value for money.
Further findings show that 82% of tenants consider the property they rent in to be their home. 35% of respondents said they expect to stay in the private rented sector, while 20% plan to buy their own home.
The survey also asked tenants about tenancy lengths. It was found that 12% did not feel comfortable approaching their landlord to ask for a longer tenancy, and 6% had asked their landlord about extending their tenancy agreement and had been refused.
On the flip side, 57% of tenants said they were always happy with the tenancy offered, and 17% had requested a longer tenancy and got what they wanted.
