Ticket merchant Seatwave, after scanning through a mountain of data from tens of thousands of ticket purchases, have put together a list of the top ten ‘guilty pleasure’ artists performing in the UK this year. The list includes the likes of Kylie Minogue, The Saturdays, Peter Andre, Bryan Adams, and Michael Buble.
According to Seatwave, 10.3% of tickets sold in Leeds are for these ‘cheesy’ gigs, higher than anywhere else in the country. Liverpool came in second with 7.2%, with Leicester, Birmingham, Manchester, and Newcastle not far behind. London finished dead last, with 2.3%.
With one in ten tickets sold in Leeds being for ‘guilty pleasures’, speculation has arisen that Leeds music fans have poor musical taste. There have also been whispers that northerners in general are less sophisticated than their ‘cultured’ southern counterparts.
However, one could argue that Leeds music fans are simply less pretentious, preferring to enjoy themselves rather than worry about what ‘cultured’ people will think of them. Besides, a strong mature cheddar beats a ‘cultured’ low-fat yogurt any day!
