Take a look at what it has to offer:
Woodhouse is an area between Hyde Park, the City Centre and Meanwood. It’s a popular location for students looking for brilliant value for money and is closely located to the Universities, both of which are within a short walking distance. Because of its location, the area is home to a number of Student Halls of Residence as well as a range of banks, shops, cafes and fast food outlets. You’ll find heaps of larger properties here with a good number of 4, 5 and 6 bedrooms student homes in the area.
Choose Woodhouse because:
- It’s really good value and you’ll get more bang for your buck!
- Whether you care about keeping off the pounds, or saving the pounds, it’s within walking distance from the Universities
- If you have plenty of mates you want to live with, there are quite a few larger properties here – 4, 5 or 6 beds perfect for sharing
Local shops, entertainment and amenities
Although it starts all the way up in Headingley, the Otley Run reaches its pinnacle right in Woodhouse. The final stretch takes in The Ship, an old boat sitting in front of a multi-storey car park that has been converted into a pub! The Eldon is another Woodhouse pub that forms part of the world-famous pub crawl.
Held on a summer weekend every year, Unity Day is a major community event held in Woodhouse Moor to help bring the people of Woodhouse and neighbouring Hyde Park together. There is live music, street food and fundraising stalls for lots of local charities on display there.
Woodhouse’s large student community lends itself to a vibrant nightlife and diverse food scene. For fast, filling food on-the-go, Simpson’s Pizzeria, Island Grill and McDonalds are favourite takeaways. Arkwright’s Fish & Chips serves a delicious version of the classic. There is also a Middle Eastern restaurant and a few restaurants serving Indian cuisine. Pubs and bars, however, are the main attraction and source of entertainment. The Chemic Tavern and TJ’s Bar welcome both locals and students and frequently feature live bands.
Although Woodhouse is close to larger areas like Hyde Park, it does have several of its own shops and amenities, including pharmacies, a dentist, an optometrist, a nail salon, a bookstore, a music store and gift shops. Morrisons and Sainsbury’s supermarkets are within a mile. Home goods can be found at the all-inclusive Wilko’s in nearby Headingley outlet.
