MP Dave Anderson has called upon all homeowners and residential landlords to ensure that their houses and flats are equipped with functioning carbon monoxide alarms, in order to cut down on deaths and injuries caused by defective boilers and other appliances.
Carbon monoxide in homes is very much a “silent killer,” as the risk of poisoning is not preceded by any odours, colours or other noticeable signs that something is wrong. Approximately 30 Britons die each year in their homes from carbon monoxide leaks. In recent years, the British government has tried to address this issue by encouraging landlords and homeowners to check or replace their boilers.
Campaigning is underway to make the installation of carbon monoxide detectors compulsory in private rented accommodation.
Leeds City Council have already sent emails to all private Landlords asking property owners to respond now by fitting CO Alarms in their properties.
Let-Leeds have addressed these recent campaigns by taking steps to ensure all of our managed properties are fitted with a Carbon Monoxide Alarm where Gas is present in the property.
We have created a partnership to provide Fire Angel Carbon Monoxide Alarms with a 7 year warranty and a self-sealed power unit to prevent removal of batteries, fitted into each property at a price of just £29 +VAT per alarm.
We will be installing CO Alarms in all of our managed properties as of 7th November 2014.
I am sure you are happy with us to proceed, however, if you do not want us to install an alarm in your property, or you would prefer to do so yourself, and would like to opt out of our installation, please reply to us by email within the next 7 days.
You can email firstname.lastname@example.org to opt out of our campaign.
I wish you all the best and thank you for your continued business.
