Local shops, entertainment and amenities

Although it starts all the way up in Headingley, the Otley Run reaches its pinnacle right in Woodhouse. The final stretch takes in The Ship, an old boat sitting in front of a multi-storey car park that has been converted into a pub! The Eldon is another Woodhouse pub that forms part of the world-famous pub crawl.

Held on a summer weekend every year, Unity Day is a major community event held in Woodhouse Moor to help bring the people of Woodhouse and neighbouring Hyde Park together. There is live music, street food and fundraising stalls for lots of local charities on display there.

Woodhouse’s large student community lends itself to a vibrant nightlife and diverse food scene. For fast, filling food on-the-go, Simpson’s Pizzeria, Island Grill and McDonalds are favourite takeaways. Arkwright’s Fish & Chips serves a delicious version of the classic. There is also a Middle Eastern restaurant and a few restaurants serving Indian cuisine. Pubs and bars, however, are the main attraction and source of entertainment. The Chemic Tavern and TJ’s Bar welcome both locals and students and frequently feature live bands.

Although Woodhouse is close to larger areas like Hyde Park, it does have several of its own shops and amenities, including pharmacies, a dentist, an optometrist, a nail salon, a bookstore, a music store and gift shops. Morrisons and Sainsbury’s supermarkets are within a mile. Home goods can be found at the all-inclusive Wilko’s in nearby Headingley outlet.
