Bramley lies between Armley on its North East and Kirkstall on its South West. The original village of Bramley centres around Town Street and is one of the older parts of what became Leeds. Some feel parts of the suburb have become run down, although with redevelopment and an intake of professionals to the area, similar to Armley it is a fast improving area for families and Professional rental alike.

Bramley Baths is a good council run gym, located in a large fine Edwardian architectural structure, benefitting from a 25 metre pool, a gym and a Russian steam room.

The Bramley Baths were built in 1904 and have been recently fully restored. Many years ago, the Bramley Bath Pool was covered up and used as a large dance hall.


The 1086 Domesday Book mentions Bramley Village as Brameleia and Bramelie.

Bramley underwent a large redevelopment during the 60’s and 70’s to replace the existing substandard shops, cottages and houses which were fairly well dilapidated. The new Bramley Shopping Centre replaced the whole of the former town centre becoming Leeds’ second purpose built town centre after Seacroft.

Recently, the redevelopment has been condemned as a generic, modernist, concrete shopping precinct, which replaced a beautiful historic Yorkshire Town. The Yorkshire Evening Post ran an article on the “lost town centre” and featured pictures of Bramley prior to redevelopment.
